This week’s Share the Wisdom focus is how to leverage competitors by turning them into assets with Jan Triplett, CEO, Business Success Center. Not all of course; only the best! After all, you're aiming for the best, right? Dr. Triplett is speaking and sharing what she has learned from others and what her own best practices are to stay alive and thrive. Dr. Triplett has had to rebuild 9 times since first starting in business.

Join us on Thursday, Oct. 22 at noon CDT to also talk about...

  • Ready Room
    • Share a book, class, software, process or something that works for you.
    • Ask for help — and get it from Forum attendees!
    • Get some "to-do’s" worth doing because others have checked them out first. Your own private Business Yelp and BBB rolled into one.
    • Learn about the business news from around the country and the world.
  • Mentor Zone
    • Business Leverage with our mentors
    • Get involved in the discussions — share your experience on the subjects, comment, ask questions
  • Resource-full — ideas, warnings and opportunities for reinventing your business
  • More from you all for you and us: your ideas, questions, suggestions and comments throughout the Forum on how our topics and takeaways would work in your business situation

Here’s the link to BSC's Rebuilding Business Nationwide Forum RSVP and more information. It’s every Thursday — same time; same day; same link. Please share.

What we learned from each other and about each other last week in just 60 minutes:
  • We learned from Poker Math author Chuck Clayton how poker can upgrade our critical thinking and our emotional intelligence plus may other skills. Even if you don't play, learning more about this game can make you a better "business player" by understanding yourself, and your friends and opponents. Genevieve Walsh, Walsh's Home Repair (VA), and Kate Amber, End Coercive Control USA, had good examples of how poker could help with their "ask" for this session.
  • Got some great "gives" from attendees and some important asks. Lots of books including two on why people buy. Sam Alexander, C2C Fashion and Technology (Dallas) wanted us to re-read Rich Dad, Poor Dad for some still relevant ideas. Listen yourself to hear the "gives" we got and responded to.
  • Cheryl Jones, Getting Simply the Best Results, on podcasts and NSA chapter in Austin and sister program in San Antonio and something positive we can all benefit from.
  • Shane Anciso, Secret Simple Computer Repair, discussed the importance of making sure your IT is plugged into an actual surge protector not some pretend extension cord. He also suggested a brand that he likes a lot, always useful to have a computer exorcist to keep our tech on top and glowing.
  • Joe Sprangel's (VA) post on opportunities for minorities in manufacturing has ideas we can all use. We can be the change. Just as Emmanuel Strategic Sustainability is doing for us.
  • Jan Triplett, BSC, on when and why to use a guarantee, even if you are a service company. It may never have to be tested but it means a lot to customers.
  • Dave Nave, Dave Nave and Associates, gave us a math lesson we won't forget to demonstrate the different kinds of thinking: cognitive and intuitive thinking and where we should be focusing. Otherwise, we could be wrong more often than right!
  • The Last Word — resource recommendations and ideas from Jan Triplett, BSC (Austin and the world). It was all about taxes — including Backup Withholding for those receiving commissions, fees, and for at least 10 more reasons. Payers and payees both need to know this info. AND, an important reminder - don't forget to vote but be informed before you cast your ballot!

Upcoming Special Guests:
Thurs. Oct. 22: Jan Triplett, CEO, Business Success Center on Leveraging Your Competition
Thurs. Oct. 29: Dokpe Ogunsanya, Dupsy Enterprises on Picking up the Pieces - Amid the Disarray of Today's World
Thurs. Nov. 5: Page Heller, Hopes Creek Consulting on Is My Idea Patentable?
We are finding great “business buddies” willing to talk openly and frankly about their business and share their expertise at the Reinventing Business Forum. It is so great to get to know and understand each other more than just to talk superficially like in a traditional in person or online meeting. The added benefit is that we get information from others in many industries and from all over the country and overseas.

If this is what you are looking for, please join us. We really want to learn from you and share with you! Interested in being our "Share the Wisdom" guest expert on a Thursday Forum? Contact me about your idea:   Go here to see what our upcoming topics are and who are our speakers.

What I know is that when we come together, we may not be able to be at our "best" right now but we can find "better" and "acceptable" ways to do business that are realistic and practical and benefit ourselves, others, and the planet, the triple bottom line!
